Norfolk Pines
at Cottesloe Beach
When you move into a new place, you discover all the pleasant surprises, and the nuisances of your new home. This morning, I found one of mine. The birds!!!

I now live on Broome Street, which is one of the main roads through the town of Cottesloe. Cottesloe is famous for two things. One, it has an awesome beach. Two, the Norfolk Pines. These tall pine trees and the beach remind me so much of La Jolla in San Diego. And like La Jolla, it is a very desirable and expensive place to live.

Now getting back to the trees. Broome Street is lined on both sides with towering Norfolk Pines. It is beautiful. However, in those trees are birds. Loud birds. Parrots and makaws. The branches are packed with them. They start screeching at sunbreak, with is around 5:30 in the morning in winter, and 4 in the morning in summer. [Note: Western Australia does not observe daylight savings time]. A few meters from my bedroom are three Norfolks, full of screeching birds.

This morning at breakfast Robin come up and asked me if those birds woke me up like they woke her. Oh yea, they did! She asked me what kind of birds they were. I answered "They are soon-to-be-dead birds."

Where is my shotgun?
